Masti

Multi-Award Winning Family Band

About Masti

Global sensations MASTI - featured on BBC One and in national newspapers - are a multi-award winning FAMILY band blending youth and experience. They are the re-birth and evolution of the popular old school Bhangra band "Nayi Roshni", together with one of the children (now an adult - Aamir!) now fronting the band.

Masti became famous for creating a unique niche: transforming popular English songs into high-energy Bhangra and Bollywood anthems. Son Aamir delivers the English vocals whilst playing the keyboards, his father Amjad performs the Hindi and Punjabi vocals, and Uncle Surinder drives the rhythm on the dhol and dholak.

Unique Performance Style

Masti transforms popular English songs into high-energy Bhangra and Bollywood anthems. They perform either as a live band or to bespoke high energy backing tracks they've written themselves, creating a unique fusion experience that appeals to all audiences.

Biography

Masti were catapulted to fame when they were approached by the BBC to turn a Christmas song into a Bhangra song. They chose Jingle Bells, which they debuted at a BBC event alongside X Factor winner Sam Bailey. The overwhelming response led to Masti being signed by Kiss Records, who backed the official release of "Jingle Balle."

The track was mixed and mastered by legendary producer Pete Ware (Heera, Alaap, Holle Holle) and features Kulwant Singh Bhamrah on the tumbi - the musician who played THAT iconic riff for Punjabi MC's Mundian To Bachke! Jingle Balle went viral with tens of millions of views across social media, and Masti also performed it live on BBC One.

Band Formation Story

Their journey began when Aamir wanted to see his father and uncle back on stage. The duo were in the old school band Nayi Roshni, releasing two hit albums, and supported the likes of Heera, Alaap, DCS, Apna Sangeet, Pardesi, Premi and more, before Amjad stepped back when he became a dad. Aamir vowed to bring his father back to stage one day and they reformed as Masti.

Crowds fell in love with the fact that they were seeing a family on stage, and they loved hearing their favourite iconic English songs being turned into high energy Bhangra mashups, alongside all the classic Bollywood/Bhangra anthems too.
